Dear All
This is a very good social service from the side of Bikas and his collegues. I congratulate them for this and wish the work which they have started be continued and expanded more.
In my opinion, if everyone of us will have the feeling of doing something for our land where we saw the first light in life, this land of ours will be well developed oneday in near future. I would like to initiate the thoughts on this. Here are some of my initialthinkings in this aspect based on my personal experiences and feelings:
When I am bit free from work or other social responsibilities, my childhood comes in front of me. A small boy in a distant rural village of Harmi in Gorkha district. The scene of children in ragged clothes playing in the dust and mud. A bit grown up, I see the people around, toiling for days and nights in the fields, carrying loads of commodities for themselves and others from far away Indian border Thori, but still having nothing to eat at their homes for more than half of the year. I remember the people deeply burdened with the traditionally backward feelings and innocence about the development. I notice the feelings of societal development, everywhere the presence of selfishness and leg-pullings. The poor people did not have idea of helping each other for the good of each other; one was against other and tried to have better life than the neighbors. The result was that very few relatively well to do families utilized that feeling of the poor and continued to exploit them.
Today when I see the development in the area, most of the people are living relatively better lives compared to that when I was a child. Road facility, electricity and telephones have reached to the people. Now the presence of schools and health posts shows that people live a better life. From outside it looks like a tremendous development has taken place. But when I compare the development with that of other countries, even with other communities of our own country, we are still lacking far behind. Still we lack the feeling of togetherness, development of the community and development of community benefit. We still lack the understanding that if we work for the upliftment of the society as a whole we will benefit more. We still cut the pipes of communal water supply, damage the public boundaries (parkhal) to make our own house or cowshed or something else, we destroy the community forest for our personal benefit. In the same way we still criticize the ones who want to do something for the good of society and at times blame them as if they are doing it for their personal benefits. These are very few examples, by doing what we are just hampering the development of our community. The root for all of these is our negative thinking about whatever is happening in the community. We have so many factors around us which provokes us to be negative such as the financial and political situation, distribution of resources, environment and population and so on. It is easy to become negative. The negative feelings of one person attacks the others, then it becomes difficult to maintain the balance in ones’ feelings of lightness and happiness because of their negative reactions and responses to everything, or it could be ones’ negative response towards others. So we must try to overcome all such negative thinkings about others, about the development and about the future. We have to learn to work for the betterment of our society which will at the end makes the lives of each of us a better one. This is just the initial thinking of a Harmiite who would love to see his Harmi a prosperous one in all aspects of life; be in material development, spiritual development and equality and equity in the society.
